My Day as a Farmer 2025: Be a Riceponsible Edwardian
October - November 2025
Now on its third year, My Day as a Farmer continues to grow as one of St. Edward School’s most meaningful and transformative initiatives. Organized and spearheaded by the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Unit, this annual activity forms part of the school’s celebration of National Rice Awareness Month, guided by this year’s theme: “Be a Riceponsible Edwardian.”
A Deeper Understanding Through Experience
Awareness begins with information—but true understanding begins with experience. This belief has shaped the heart of My Day as a Farmer, an immersive activity that allows Edwardians to step into the shoes of our farmers and witness firsthand the hard work, patience, and dedication behind every grain of rice.
Held on October 11 and November 15, students had the opportunity to engage in authentic farming tasks, from preparing the field to handling tools to observing the different tasks involved in working in the rice field. These moments of immersion aim to cultivate gratitude and responsibility—key values that embody what it means to be a Riceponsible Edwardian.
Promoting Rice Responsibility and Healthy Choices
Beyond celebrating rice as a staple in Filipino households, the TLE Unit emphasizes the importance of making Riceponsible choices. This includes:
- Exploring alternatives to rice, such as corn, as a way to diversify diets and reduce overdependence on rice consumption.
- Choosing healthier options, such as brown rice, which offers better nutritional value.
- Practicing “no waste” habits, encouraging Edwardians to finish every grain on their plate and avoid food waste.
- Supporting local farmers by choosing to buy locally produced rice, sustaining the livelihood of the communities that fuel our nation’s food supply.

Stewardship in Action
Aligned with the school’s value of Stewardship, the activity reminds Edwardians that caring for our resources begins with recognizing the hands that cultivate them. By understanding the challenges and triumphs of Filipino farmers, learners gain a deeper appreciation for the food they eat and the people who make it possible
Through this annual initiative, St. Edward School continues to nurture young people who are informed, grateful, and responsible—worthy stewards of the Earth and advocates of sustainable living.
